Considered and deliberate, Krista’s artwork suggests a concentration akin to meditation. She enjoys emphasizing the space between drawing and sculpture by layering hand torn and hand cut sheets of paper. Each sheet is is embellished in various ways (pastel, color pencil, thread, punched holes, burnt edges) and then she separates the sheets with space in between, allowing shadows to form from the edges, casting delicate lines onto the next. The effect is subtle yet intriguing; and arouses curiosity in the viewer – encouraging a closer look.
Her intention is to celebrate the handmade and at the same time ‘change the gaze’ of the viewer.
Krista received her BFA from Iowa State University, in Ames, Iowa and continued her education at the Royal College of Art in London, England. As a fine art professional, her award winning work is exhibited internationally in both private and corporate settings.
After living in the Saugatuck area for 22 years – Krista now lives and works in Spring Lake, Michigan, alongside her husband, their son and family dog.
